rose petalsRose water is a traditional facial cleanser and astringent. It also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and, of course, a lovely smell.

To make a facial cleanser/toner using rose water is very quick and easy.

To Make the Rosewater

Gather rose petals fresh from the rose bush. Do not use fallen petals. You will need about two cups of rose petals to a liter or water. The amount will vary depending on the colour or the depth of fragrance you like. Experiment with different amounts and varieties of rose petals. If you do not have rose bushes dried rose petals can be purchased at health food stores.

Place the rose petals in a heavy saucepan and add soft water. Either use clean rainwater or bottled spring water. Heat until just below the boil then cool and strain. Keep it in the refrigerator.
