Homemade Gift Basket Ideas
It doesn’t have to be a basket! All sorts of containers can be used. For a handyman or woman a bucket filled with tools would be suitable, for a gardener you could use a large terracotta flowerpot with seeds and gardening tools. A padded basket in a pretty fabric filled with sewing implements would be suitable for someone who likes dressmaking or embroidery. How about a wooden box containing paints and paint brushes for an artist. Use your imagination and you can come up with lots of different ideas. In this way the ‘basket’ itself will be a useful part of your gift.
Filling Your Basket
Once you have decided on your theme buy your contents first so that you know how big your ‘basket’ needs to be, then buy the basket. You will also need some filler material to place in the bottom of the basket to hold the contents on display. Tissue paper in a complimentary color to your basket or gifts will be appropriate. Also buy some cellophane to wrap the basket. You could match the colour of the cellophane to the tissue paper or use clear cellophane.
Place the basket in the centre of a large square of cellophane as it is much easier to do this before you start adding the contents. Ensure it is large enough to be bunched up with some cellophane over. Consider any gifts that are breakable. You might want to wrap them in tissue paper or fabric. Crumple up some tissue and add to the bottom of the basket then carefully add the gifts arranging them to be clearly visible. You could also add small fresh or artificial flowers if the gift is for a woman.
Bunch up the cellophane and tie with a ribbon colour matched to your theme. Cellophane may not be suitable for all basket. You may think a bucket with tools for instance does not need it, but for most baskets wrapping with cellophane not only looks decorative but keeps the contents in place while you transport it.
Your basket will reflect both your knowledge of the recipient and the things they love the most and will make a very personal gift that will surely be appreciate.
